There seem to be some things that actually do work out after all. Today we got a phone call from Mr. Mutlu from the OHB company: It seems that our signal did arrive, which means that as soon as we takeoff, we will leave a mark on the fleetfinder Internetpage. Gisela did have a chance to fly today. Tom, who used to be a farmer, took her up in his sharp looking Thorpp 18 two-seater. 'Now that went fast', was her comment after landing half an hour later. Tom had shown her parts of the nearby coastline and she got an idea of the landscape surrounding the Serpentine airfield. The soil is very sandy, the few cattle that you can make out don't have too good a life here. Some farmers keep horses on pastures but they can't be finding too much to eat there, either. Everything is just grey-brownish and monotone. Further West there are a few single houses, then some developments of houses until you reach a small resort-community called Rockingham. Two huge malls - one is similar in size to our Weserpark in Bremen - and lots of apartment building close to the beach.

We rented a car for 30 dollars there - just for one day - because we didn't want to get stuck on the airfield all the time. Remember, we still have three whole days to kill before we leave.

We do talk a lot to the local pilots. It gives us a chance to learn more about the Australian way of life and we received valuable suggestions on what a visitor has to do and to see around here. A female pilot that immigrated from the Netherlands told us about a Motel in Nullaborwuste where you can actually park your airplane right next to your room. And the gas station is next door. When we go there Gisela can finally fulfill her dream and just land at a gas station, taxi to the gas pump and tell the attendant: "Fill her up, please"... We will tell you more about it if we should have the time to stop there. As to our internet-access with our laptop I have to say that we gave up on that. No matter if we try to get international access by T-Online or if we use our new Australian provider Ozemail we never get connected. We do reach the provider - they in turn keep asking for passwords and never accept our correct entries. When we last tried it yesterday, Gisela ended up totally frustrated.
