Melbourne

Another day in the city - and this time we will do some sightseeing. It is unusually chilly here - with temperatures just around 18 degrees C. On the local train we actually spot a guy sporting a woolen sweater! We can manage just wearing long-sleeved shirts.

In Melbourne we find a big farmers market right next to the city center. Here you can find the usual junk-shops selling clothes and souvenirs but also a great variety of fruits and vegetables at very reasonable prices. In what used to be slaughterhouse there now are little stores selling fish, meat and other groceries. Again, you don't have to pay much to get your belly full: lamb chops fopr 6,60 DeutschMark per kilo, roast beef for 8 to 11 Mark.

Our next stop is the Victorian Art Museum, which our tour-guide praises for its extensive collection of Aborigines artworks. Our luck has it that this section had to be under construction right now.... So we just indulge ourselves looking at the Picasso, paintings by Henry Moore and some older and newer works by Australian painters!

In the evening it starts raining again - which is to the liking of our hosts as they take all their fresh water from a rain water tank. We start to miss our trikes a bit. Tomorrow we will check if they are alright at the hangar on Mangalore Airfield.
