Sydney

last peekDONE! We arrived at the final destination of our journey. Behind us we put ca. 5.500 kilometeres, 17 days of flying and incredibly beautiful experiences. We made lots of new friends. Honestly - after the first few days after living Perth there were times when we asked ourselves why we were doing all this - but that is all behind us now: the stormy time at Bremer Bay, the cold high above the Nullabor Plains, the turbulences on the way towards Wyhalla, the 40 kilometres stretch of land where no landing would have been possible and the constant rain in Narromine.

Now we have arrived and all that counts are the good things we lived through! Today's flight was another highlight. There was some fog over Bathurst early in the morning and not too high above them some nice cumulus-clouds. We were eager to get up there and flew just below the clouds towards Sydney.

portThe last 160 kilometres. Below us, the landscape kept rising, with the first mountain chain around 1.000 metres high, later on they rose to about 1.800 metres. More and more the sheep pastures were replaced by forest. Then there was nothing but gumtrees below.

After the rain coming down the past few days, the air was very clean. Maximum visibility, and we got to see why this area is called the "Blue Mountain": Due to the evaporation coming from the gumtrees the air has a deep blue gleam: the kind you might see in germany only in the late afternoon during the "blaue Stunde".

Suddenly the mountains slope away and give way to the coastal area of Sydney. We can see the first airplanes and have to focus on avoiding the several restricted air spaces and on keeping the right altitude. One and a half hours later we can see Hoxton Park. A small airfield offering flight-instructions for helicopters. Richard, an aerobatic, lands with us in his Pitt Special and makes room for us in his brandnew hangar. Here we will park our trikes untill we can store them in the container on Thursday.

Beforehand we want to go up in the air one more time. Ray, who works as manager for our main-sponsor Hellmann, wants to come up with us. Plus, our fuel tanks are still half-full. so, weather conditions permitting, you will receive one last flight-report tomorrow.
